StartupHub Monitor vs. the alternatives
Why teams move off Crunchbase, Owler, and Crayon.
| Feature | StartupHub Monitor | Crunchbase | Owler | Crayon |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entity-resolved tracking | Resolves the right company, not a keyword string | Entity DB — but no stealth / long-tail | Limited to indexed set | The competitors you configure |
| Bring-your-own URL (incl. stealth) | Any domain, even stealth startups | Curated DB — no arbitrary domains | Pre-curated list only | Add competitors manually |
| Signal types tracked | 8 — funding, jobs, tech, news, headcount, pricing, status, domain | ~3 — funding, news, people moves | 3 — news, funding, exec moves | Web / pricing / social / news changes |
| LinkedIn headcount delta | Profile-enrichment pipeline | Static headcount ranges, no delta | ||
| Tech stack diff | CDN, hosting, payments, observability, compliance | Some web-tech detection | ||
| AI dedup across outlets | Collapses 5 reprints into 1 alert | News firehose, dup-heavy | Summarised digests | |
| Slack + Teams integrations | Per-channel routing | CRM / Salesforce sync | Salesforce only | Slack alerts |
| Underlying directory + investor graph | 14k AI companies + investor + founder graph | Huge DB, paywalled — no live tech/jobs graph | Company-only, no graph | No directory — per-account config |
| Honest cadence + last-checked timestamp | You see exactly when we last polled | Opaque refresh | Opaque | Configurable, but no last-checked |

Why teams move
Three things existing alert tools can't do.
Built on a live directory, not a feed reader
Every alert links straight to the full company profile — founders, funding history, tech stack, similar companies, investor graph. You don't bounce out to Google to verify what just happened.
Bring-your-own URL
Stealth startups your team is tracking aren't in Owler or Distill. Paste the domain, we promote it into the directory automatically and start polling within minutes. The data your team pays for becomes our coverage focus.
Eight signal types, not three
Funding rounds + news mentions are table stakes. Job postings, tech-stack diffs, LinkedIn headcount, status incidents, pricing-page diffs, and new domain registrations are where the actual leading indicators live.
Eight signal types, monitored continuously
Each watch can subscribe to the signals that matter to you. Hide the rest.
Funding rounds + acquisitions
Press releases, RDAP domain registrations, news RSS, verified investor disclosures.
Job postings
Greenhouse, Lever, Workable, Ashby. Detect new req-types and headcount surges per function.
Tech stack changes
CDN, hosting, auth, payments, observability, compliance. Re-fingerprinted each cycle.
LinkedIn headcount
Profile-enrichment pipeline catches growth surges, layoffs, and exec moves.
News mentions
AI-deduplicated across thousands of sources. Five reprints collapse into one alert.
Status incidents
statuspage.io + instatus polled on a tight loop. Vendor risk + competitive uptime intel.
Pricing-page changes
Diff against last snapshot. New tier, dropped tier, price hike — all flagged with before/after.
Domain registrations
New subsidiary or product-line domains surfaced from our RDAP + NRD pipeline.
Three steps to set up alerts
No keyword strings, no manual feed configuration, no SEO spam filtering.
Paste any URL
Track public or stealth companies. If it has a website, we monitor it. Unknown domains auto-promote into our directory in seconds.
Pick signals + cadence
Funding, jobs, tech stack, news, headcount, status, pricing. Choose what you care about and how often we should look.
Get alerts your way

Frequently asked
Can I track companies that are not in your directory?
Yes. Paste any domain, even a stealth startup. We auto-promote it into our directory at submission and start tracking it on your chosen cadence within minutes.
What does "12-hour cadence" actually mean?
We re-poll every 12 hours. Not a 12-hour SLA on detecting change. If a company raises a round at noon and your last poll was 11am, you will see the alert in your next 11pm poll. Pro Plus offers a 4-hour cadence and best-effort sub-hour polling for funding-round signals specifically.
How is this different from Crunchbase, Owler, or Crayon?
Crunchbase and Owler are entity databases with alerts bolted on; Crayon is competitive intelligence for a fixed competitor list. We have the same alerts surface but built on top of an active directory of 14,000+ AI companies with the underlying investor + founder + product graph. So in addition to "company X raised", you get "the investor leading the round is on the board of these other companies you watch." The alerts service is the entry point; the directory and graph are the moat.
What happens if I cancel?
Your watches stay in the database but the cron polls stop within an hour. You can re-subscribe later and pick up where you left off. We do not sell or share the list of companies you tracked.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes — 14 days on Pro Lite and Pro, no credit card required to start the Free tier (1 company, weekly).
Can our team share a watchlist?
Pro + Pro Plus plans support shared workspaces. Add teammates, assign watches by category, route alerts to per-channel Slack destinations.
